Ask A Summoner Apprentice
J- Come to think of it, I don’t know if Hawk planned for the cat or not. I think Master gave it to him.

J- It’s not as if he’s telling me anything either. I think that makes it worse.

J- I don’t know what’s more terrifying. The fact that it will eat the light before killing you or the fact that it’s apart of our Master now.

H- Elementals are powerful. They’re so powerful that it takes a very skilled Summoner to even think about trying to control one. They’re the most powerful magical creatures you could ever hope to have outside of contracting gods… sometimes even then. The Wyvern is Darkness elemental. The Master’s familiar. Tied to his very being and the control he exerts over it is incredible but if he were to ever slip… Ever to lose control… Well. Let’s just say we avoid angering him.

Thankyou Whimbrel for the help coloring. :D

H- I’m sorry Hannah.

J- There’s a number of ways someone becomes a Summoner’s Apprentice. The Magi Counsel sends out the Searchers to search the lands for children with magic potential. This guys I hear willingly give up their eyes and specialize in elements that revolve around divination and the like; they are a real specialty field. Well they find kids and then they talk to that kid’s caretaker into whether or not they want their kid trained. Most agree, I mean hey, their kid is going to get into a very well paid field and make good money which will no doubt benefit the family greatly. My caretaker was happy to sign me up. If the caretaker says no, the child’s magic gets sealed. I know there’s a reason for it I just don’t know why.
H- It’s because there’s rouge practitioners of banned magical fields who will want to pass on their magic. That’s also why all apprentices get imbued with powerful tracking spells from the counsel for the first five years or so of their apprenticeships, so they don’t get stolen. Most Mages care about their apprentices as much as they would their own flesh and blood children, it’s the same concept of passing down a part of yourself.
J- Ours didn’t really.
H- We’re the exception, obviously. There’s also parent’s who know their children are gifted in magic who willingly sign them up to be apprentices. Those are most commonly Elven parents who live around the Humans.
Our kind don’t have to do this and the more traditionalist Elven parents won’t, opting instead to have their children taught with their peers deep within our territories. I lived close to the human settlements, my mother signed me up to help my standing do to my… diluted potential. Maisie’s father signed her up even though she was perfectly healthy because he’s a diplomat.

J: Moon rabbits are powerful creatures who’s abilities ebb and flow with the moon cycles. They’re lucky to have but hard to find.H: This particular type of river spirit can control the currents and can purify water. Needless to say they can be very useful under the right circumstances. Any Summoner worth their salt needs to be well rounded with their summons.

H: I can’t use the Life element to the best of its ability yet but someday I will be strong in it if I work hard enough.
